The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 in which you are now living 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
