These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
