The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
