The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
