The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
