The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
