The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens, and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
