He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
