The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
