The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the sun and its light 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
