He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
