The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
