He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
