The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
