He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
