The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
