Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
