The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
