The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
