Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning unto humankind 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 running away from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
