The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
