Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
