The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is covered, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are made to pass away, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 And when the pages are made public 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And the night when it departs, 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 And he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) withholds not a knowledge of the unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 So whither do you stray? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
