He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
