The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
