The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 for a great Day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 those who give the lie to the [coming of] Judgment Day: 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
