The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
