Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha, Meem. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We have indeed sent it as a Qur’an in the Arabic language, so that you may understand. 3 It is in the Origin of the Book with Us, sublime and wise. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 How many a prophet did We send among the men of old! 6 no Prophet came to them except that they mocked him, 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier than these; such was the example of the earlier peoples. 8 And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing." 9 Who hath made for you the earth a bed, and hath made for you paths therein that haply ye may be directed. 10 He Who sent down water from the sky in a determined measure, and thereby We revived a dead land: likewise will you be raised up (from the earth) -- 11 He Who created these pairs, all of them, and provided you ships and cattle on which you ride, 12 That ye mount firmly on the backs thereof, and then may remember the favour of your Lord when ye mount thereon, and may say: hallowed be He Who hath subjected this unto us, and we for it were not fit. 13 Surely we have to go back to our Lord." 14 AND YET, they attribute to Him offspring from among some of the beings created by Him! Verily, most obviously bereft of all gratitude is man! 15
