The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
