He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
