The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
