The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
