Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 They will say, "Can we be granted any respite?" 203 Do they really want Our chastisement to be expedited? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 Not by the Satans has it been brought down; 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 verily, [even] from hearing it are they utterly debarred! 212 So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 And take those believers under your wing who follow you. 215 And if they disobey thee, say thou: verily I am quit of that which ye work. 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who sees you when you arise 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They come down on every guilty impostor. 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 And as for the poets [they, too, are prone to deceive themselves: and so, only] those who are lost in grievous error would follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
Almighty God's Truth.
