۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
