In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
