In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
