The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
