The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
