The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
