۞ To the people of 'Ad We sent their brother, Hud. He said, "O my people, worship God, you have no other god but He. Then will you not be God-fearing?" 65 The chiefs of those who disbelieved from among his people said: Most surely we see you in folly, and most surely we think you to be of the liars. 66 'My nation, there is no foolishness in me' he replied. 'I am a Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds 67 "I convey unto you the Messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy adviser (or well-wisher) for you. 68 "Do ye wonder that there hath come to you a message from your Lord through a man of your own people, to warn you? call in remembrance that He made you inheritors after the people of Noah, and gave you a stature tall among the nations. Call in remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah: that so ye may prosper." 69 They answered: "Hast thou come to us [with the demand] that we worship God alone, and give up all that our forefathers were wont to worship? Bring about, then, that [punishment] with which thou hast threatened us, if thou art a man of truth!" 70 He said: surely there have befallen you wrath and indignation from your Lord. Dispute ye with me over names ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no warranty? Wait then; I also will be with you of those who wait. 71 We saved him and those who adhered to him. By Our mercy, and We cut off the roots of those who rejected Our signs and did not believe. 72
