The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
