The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
