Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
