Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on the alternate sides and crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
