The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
