The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
