Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects the best, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
