۞ It is He who created you out of one living soul, and made of him his spouse that he might rest in her. Then, when he covered her, she bore a light burden and passed by with it; but when it became heavy they cried to God their Lord, 'If Thou givest us a righteous son, we indeed shall be of the thankful.' 189 And yet, as soon as He has granted them sound [offspring,] they begin to ascribe to other powers beside Him a share in bringing about what He has granted them! Sublimely exalted, however, is God - above anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 190 What! they associate (with Him) that which does not create any thing, while they are themselves created! 191 And cannot provide any help to them, nor do they help themselves? 192 If ye call them to guidance, they will not obey: For you it is the same whether ye call them or ye hold your peace! 193 Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Do they (the idols) have feet to walk, hands to hold things, eyes to see, and ears to hear? (Muhammad), tell them (the pagans) to call on their idols for help and to plan against Me without delay. 195 Lo! my Protecting Friend is Allah Who revealeth the Scripture. He befriendeth the righteous. 196 "But those ye call upon besides Him, are unable to help you, and indeed to help themselves." 197 If you call them to the guidance they do not hear; and thou seest them looking at thee, unperceiving. 198 Use thou indulgence and enjoin seemliness and turn away from the ignorant. 199 And if it happens that a prompting from Satan should stir you up, seek refuge with Allah. He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. 200 Lo! those who ward off (evil), when a glamour from the devil troubleth them, they do but remember (Allah's Guidance) and behold them seers! 201 But their brothers - the devils increase them in error; then they do not stop short. 202 And whenever thou bringest not unto them, as a sign, they say: wherefore hast not thou selected it? Say thou: I only follow that which hath been revealed unto me by my Lord. This is an enlightenment from your Lord and a guidance and a mercy unto a people who believe. 203 When the Koran is recited, listen to it in silence in order that Allah has mercy upon you. 204 And remember your Lord within yourself humbly and fearing and in a voice not loud in the morning and the evening and be not of the heedless ones. 205 Verily those who are with thy Lord are not stiff-necked against His worship, and they hallow, and unto Him they prostrate themselves. ۩ 206
