The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ They ask thee (O Muhammad) of the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the messenger, so keep your duty to Allah, and adjust the matter of your difference, and obey Allah and His messenger, if ye are (true) believers. 1 The believers are only those whose hearts thrill with fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His revelations are rehearsed unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord. 2 Who establish prayer and who expend of that wherewith We have provided them. 3 Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision. 4 As your Lord sent you from your home (to fight) for the true cause, a section of the faithful were averse, 5 Disputing with thee concerning the truth after it was made manifest, as if they were being driven to death and they (actually) saw it. 6 And (remember) when Allah promised you (Muslims) one of the two parties (of the enemy i.e. either the army or the caravan) that it should be yours, you wished that the one not armed (the caravan) should be yours, but Allah willed to justify the truth by His Words and to cut off the roots of the disbelievers (i.e. in the battle of Badr). 7 That He might justify Truth and prove Falsehood false, distasteful though it be to those in guilt. 8 When you sought aid from your Lord, so He answered you: I will assist you with a thousand of the angels following one another. 9 Allah made it only as glad tidings, and that your hearts be at rest therewith. And there is no victory except from Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. 10
