The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
